Childhood obesity | How to prevent obesity

Children suffering from obesity will have a sense of inferiority for the children themselves. They feel that they are too obese and are unwilling to contact others too much. Some children are bullied and discriminated against by children of the same age because of obesity. For these phenomena, it is naturally uncomfortable for parents to see this phenomenon. If they do not want to see this phenomenon, what parents should do is to prevent children’s obesity early and take precautions to keep children away from obesity. So, how can obesity be prevented?

The prevention of childhood obesity should start from the fetal period and take measures at the age when obesity is prone to occur (infancy, 5-8 years, adolescence), and the effect is better.

Fetal period-prevention of fetal overweight

During the fetal period, it is necessary to prevent the excessive birth weight of newborns. Pregnant women need to increase their nutrition during pregnancy, but it is not that the more nutritional intake the better. If a pregnant woman gains too much weight, it will often lead to excessive birth weight of the fetus, which greatly increases the probability of obesity in the future. Therefore, to prevent fetal overweight, pregnant women must first regularly check whether the weight gain is in line with the physiological laws of normal pregnancy. Normal pregnant women increase by 1.5 to 3 kilograms in the first 3 months and then increase by 400 grams per week. At full term, their weight will increase by 12.5 kilograms compared with the non-pregnancy. Secondly, pregnant women should adjust their caloric intake according to their weight gain. Third, pregnant women should also ensure proper activity, such as walking and light physical activity.

Infancy-encourage breastfeeding

Breast milk is the most ideal food for babies. Studies have shown that breastfed babies have a significantly lower risk of obesity after many years than artificially fed babies, and the longer breastfeeding time, the lower the probability of obesity in the future. The reason may be that breastfed infants can better control the intake and interval of each meal and avoid excessive calorie intake. Artificial feeding often has overfeeding, which causes an excessive intake of children and causes obesity.

Childhood and adolescence from childhood

First of all, we should help children develop good eating habits. Parents should realize that children have the ability to regulate calorie intake according to their own growth needs. Parents only need to provide a variety of foods, and the children decide whether to eat or not and how much. In daily life, parents should lead by example and teach by example, so that children can develop good eating habits from an early age.

Secondly, increasing the amount of activity to increase calorie consumption is an important measure to prevent obesity. Even in infancy, don't always hold the child in your hands, but help the child stand up and do passive exercises. From May to June, train the child to automatically jump, sit, climb, and walk on the adult's lap. In early childhood, let children walk, run, jump, and play games more independently. During school age and adolescence, let children have 30-60 minutes of physical activity every day.

Also, it is necessary to regularly help children to check their weight. If they find that they are gaining too fast, they should pay attention to them and adjust them in time.
